Workshop @ Archiprix International 2017

A HANDSHAKE WITH THE CITY
Introducing the city through the culture of play

Archiprix 2017
CEPT University, Ahmedabad, India

More information on Archiprix 2017 can be found here.

This is a vocational workshop, where the participants are working with the body and the senses.

Play, in our workshop setting, refers to very material games played by the participants. The play was a stimulus to experiencing the city, and not an abstract observed strategy.

There are no solutions here, as there were no problems to solve. The challenges, and risks, for the participants instead were ones of inserting themselves into the city through play. Most of the participants were encountering Ahmedabad city for the first time.

The work you see should be seen in the spirit of material tests with the body, through play. In this context, the exhibition is in the spirit of honouring these encounters.

A mobile installation, intended to be located in multiple situations within the city. It is an attempt to reinsert the playful activities and findings of the workshop back into the city, generating briefly, a space of intimacy yet unfamiliarity. A material expression of the condition experienced by all the participants
during the workshop.
